I lied!

Boy did I get good sleep last night. So good I could barely pull myself out of bed this morning. The good news is that I feel great! I did my bed exercises before I went to sleep last night and woke up feeling fairly limber.

This morning I had Hubby bring down my dumbells so I could do some upper-body strength training and just did some dumbell curls, extensions, chest and shoulder presses. I also did my standing leg exercises. Everything felt good and I can almost get my knee up to waist level - that and the side leg raises are the hardest ones. I can definitely see an improvement from Sunday to today already, however! So, I lied. I'm not exactly taking it easy today.

Tomorrow I'm back to work, so today I'm going to enjoy reading more of my book as well as watching crap tv. I was only gone 5 days so hopefully I didn't miss much. I also have my friend, Mala, visiting for lunch today. She's my first non-family visitor and it will be nice to hang out and chat for a while.

Toodleooo...

Wow, you are doing great! You are ready for PT!!

The only thing I would caution you about, especially since you're on pain meds, is the exercises. A hip replacement is a different procedure altogether, and in fact they make you walk immediately, much sooner than with this procedure. You may have gotten used to using muscles in a way that doesn't help your hip, and by doing unsupervised exercises, you might not be doing something helpful. For me, I had to relearn to move my hip because I was using all the wrong muscles to lift my leg.

Then again, that may not be the case for you, and besides, you're not going to do in a week or 10 days something you can't undo once you get into PT.

Plus it sounds like you feel better the next day, so nevermind. Proceed.

I could have spared you this comment, but I wanted to leave you something to read! Hah.

I hear you, e. I'm being careful, I promise. None of the exercises are weight-bearing. I haven't done anything that involves standing on the operated leg, nor do I plan to. I'm also still using at least one crutch, and two if I go out of the house. However, when I do put weight on my leg and use it to walk, I don't limp if that makes sense. I have to take smaller steps and I don't have the full range of motion of a regular gait but there is no limping - my hip, leg, knee... I'm always very careful to keep everything square, facing forward and not doing anything funky. I still may not be using the right muscles (I guess I'll find out soon) but I didn't limp before I had the surgery or have limitations on my range of motion, so I've got that going for me. Plus, as you said, the exercises make me feel better, not worse. My range of motion has increased substantially, and my stiffness has decreased.

Right now, my biggest "owee" is the 3 holes and stitches. They're sore, bruised, tightening up, and now itching.
