Has the existential "me" already disappeared into the role of "mother"? I wonder this because, ever since I started my pregnancy blog, I seem to be only getting comments on that blog. Meanwhile, this blog seems to have been largely ignored.
Am I already to be defined by my parenting status? I sure hope not.
Granted, posts of late on this blog have been pretty political but it IS, after all, just 40 days until the election and I just can't help myself. However, I do welcome opposing viewpoints for a good debate. Note: although pregnant I can still debate. Can't drink martinis but can still debate. Just thought I'd make that clear.
Either way, I wish I had something else to blog about. Being pregnant, nauseous, exhausted, and generally sick of the computer screen by 5pm every day does not bode well for (a) exciting exploits to blog about or (b) creative and witty journaling vis a vie this blog.
The only "current" news is that my Dad is in town for a couple of weeks, working on my parent's new house just down the street. He works on the house during the day, I work here at home, and we meet up at lunch and dinner times to feed my ever-growling belly. In fact, about the only thing that changes daily is my diet and which restaurants I should frequent today for my meals. Today I rather fancy a Roast Beef sandwich from Rim's Deli, just down the street from me....
Well, that did it. Now I'm hungry. Off to snack...
Please comment to let me know you're alive.
Thanks!

I'm still here -- and I even figured out how to comment! Loved the last political post...
I'm alive, I don't really have anything interesting to say about politics (though I'm registered to vote at last), but I still like baby blogs better than political blogs.
Everyone is political, Joy, even if you don't discuss politcal strategy in the truest sense. You have opinion on thigs, THAT I KNOW for sure!
p.s. Glad you registered to vote!
I'm here, and will continue to read and comment on this blog. I'm curious as to why you split up the blogs, though.
I split up the blogs for a couple of reasons. (1) because I was originally keeping the baby under wraps yet wanted to write about my pregnancy (2) because I really do want to separate this experience, this one thing that is happening in my life, from my life in general and everything else that I'm interested in. I don't see a political commentary on a pregnancy blog or visa versa. I just see the pregnancy and our new child as important enough and full enough of unique experiences, to warrant it's own blog.
My political opinion is, that none of them are better than the other. I'm registered to vote yet I don't really want to vote for any one of them. Politicians are dirty...is my political viewpoint....
I read and then, vomit. Yes I find the political blogs overly left-leaning and one-sided...but that's what happens when you tow a party line. You know I love you...but I will stick with the baby blog. On that note, perhaps instead of slicing out the baby blog, you should slice out the political blog, or the "overtly" (ongoing) polical stuff. Reading about your life (in all of it's technicolor glory) is wonderful; that's why I read your blog - for it's uniqueness. But, I get the political rhetoric on TV and, I'm sick of it. Keep it fresh sister and keep giving me the things I can't get!!!
oh...1 more thing...I am definately not telling you how or what to say in your blog; my pointer finger is in good health and i can scroll past what I dislkie! It's your space and place for expressing yourself. Just added my humble and very candid 2-cents. :)
Well, ShePrior, I love you too BUT... Hmmm... towing a party line. That's unfair. I am indeed unashamedly left-wing and have never pretended any different but I think "towing a party line" is s below-the-belt criticism and an attempt to devalue my opinions. You're certainly entitled to yours, even if we disagree. I am expressing my own, honest beliefs and opinions and that is exactly what this blog is and has always been about - hence the title "Random Rants..." Occasionally I choose to share something about my personal life but not always. Right now my personal life is being shaped by this presidential campaign, so that's what you get, like it or not. The posts come directly from my own heart, my head and gut, not from any propaganda that the media or the campaigns release. MANY people actually feel this way - in disagreement with you - and it is not because they "tow" any line. Otherwise, the same could be said of your right-leaning beliefs, no?
I love your "random rants"...and, have a significant amount of respect for your beliefs in your party of choice...I admire your commitment and your passion for your party and it's affiliates. Because of that, I would never attempt to devalue your opinions - I feel (and this is my opinion) like it's fair to say that "unashamedly left wing" is, in many ways "towing that line". There's a lot more I could say on the subject, I just don't want it to be misconstrued as an attempted assault b/c this is one way, flat communication. Bottom line is, if my stacking those two similar-weighted phrases felt unfair, it certainly, absolutely wasn't meant that way; it was simply my way of saying "unashamedly left". Vernacular can differ more than opinion. Also, I'm not sure which precursor your last statement about "many people feel that way", was attached to so I'll explain it the two ways I think it can be meant: 1) if you mean that many people agree with your political views, then, your right....and just as many share opposing views...just perhaps not on your blog. If you meant that many people also feel that you write with your heart -I do feel that way and, I really, really enjoy it. Lastly...for my right-leaning beliefs...I think that's a biiiiig stretch and I am surprised you said it! Yes, I do share a number of social and fiscal values with the republican party...but I am probably the "crunchiest", most treehugging moderate conservative that you know!! In no reasonable, truthful and sane minded way could I be described as "unashamedly Republican" or, "towing a line"...I'm just middle of the road with a right twitch. Michelle, I feel terrible that someting I said in such a lighthearted way was interpreted as it was. This was the first time I openly commented on anyone's blog and, it was yours - a person I care about. Life's too short to bicker about perception...when it comes to political blogging and since our opinions are different, I don't want to risk something so innane putting a wedge between us, so, I'm taking the 5th on your blogs from now on....!
ShePrior: Ok, clearly, debate is not meant to be had in the comments section of a blog and perhaps my response to your post should have been via email initially as well as the personal email I sent to you this evening.
BUT I want to start by saying to you and all that read this blog - I do not have an aversion to opposing opinions. Yes, I have fairly strong ones of my own and expect to get strong ones in response. In fact, I ENJOY reading dissenting opinions - I don't get them nearly enough. Perhaps people are afraid I will lambast them and I'm sure my response to you, ShePrior, didn't do much to dispel that.
SO I want to ensure I'm making MYSELF clear this time, for all my readers and friends:
I had a reaction to one phrase in your response - just one - which was "tow/toe the line" and what that meant TO ME - that my opinions were borrowed or rote.
So, I took a moment to look up the definition of toe the line and this is what I found:
The primary connotation of “toe the line” is: “To adhere to rules or doctrines conscientiously; conform” (American Heritage) and “To conform to a rule or standard” (Oxford).
So, I guess I have a negative reaction to my opinions as being characterized as conformist.
Nothing else in your comments bothered me and I was actually really excited to see your name pop up in my comments. So, I hope we can put this behind us and that you will continue to comment on my blog upon this understanding:
1) If a comment you (or anyone else) make really rubs me the wrong way, I'll email you personally, not respond in the comments section of my blog.
2) Yet, at the same time, I'll be more cognizant of the fact that my friends, when commenting on this blog, usually mean me no harm or offense and I'll err on the positive side of interpreting those responses.
Thanks for having this dialogue with me in this open forum. I hope I made MY intentions clear through this response.
